The first bout of the QEW Slam this past Friday saw some tight competition as teams from Toronto, Burlington and Buffalo threw down some amazing poetry! The open stage saw some great poetry, and gave the audience a chance to warm up their voices as well - let's just say the '6th judge' was definitely in the house. Jamal "Versiz" May kicked off the show with a kickass set. I was happy that I got to see him perform, and possibly happier that I didn't have to compete against him! When the dust settled on bout one, Burlington stood victorious. The scores carry over to bout 2, so it's still anyone's game. For those keeping score at home, here's how it went down: Burlington 112.7 The Njozi Poets (Bflo.) 111 Toronto Poetry Slam 110.3 Slam Fam (T.O) 109.6 Uncommon Sense (Bflo) 107.7 BAM (T.O.) 103.6.
